Math Counts is a national math club, with thousands of schools participating. Math Counts is open to all students (6th, 7th, and 8th) and even if you are in other clubs or sports you can join. We will start by covering math that students will get regularly in class and move to more complex topics that are more usually high school topics.
Math Counts runs from October until February with usually 1 or 2 meetings a year. Meetings will usually consist of a small warm-up game, a snack, challenge problems, and working on an advanced topic time. We will run a few warm up competitions during some of these meetings, but we will compete twice over the year. Our district Competition is usually held in January at one of the middle schools. We will take a bus to this competition if it is not at London. In addition, we will have a regional competition at Oakton Community College in February. There is NO bus for this trip and it is on a Saturday morning.
Things to note:
- This club can be for all students! (struggling learners welcome)
- We will also be creating movies to help other students solve problems they will see in math classes.
- Any student who can make our competition team is eligible to apply for a College Scholarship!
