Dear CCSD21 families,

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to Pfizer-BioNTech for the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 12-15. Both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics have strongly expressed their support and recommend COVID-19 vaccines in younger children and adolescents.

As a result, CCSD21 will co-host a vaccine clinic with Jewel-Osco at London Middle School. The first dose will be administered on Friday, May 21 (an Institute Day – students do not have school). The second dose will be administered on Friday, June 11.

Later today, Thursday, May 13, at 4 PM, all families and staff members will receive an email and text message through ParentSquare with the link to sign up for a vaccination appointment through Jewel-Osco.

This vaccination opportunity is open to any member of our community who will be 12 or older on Friday, May 21. CCSD21 students, their older siblings, and family members, as well as family members of CCSD21 staff, are encouraged to attend. School District 21 will offer free shuttle bus service for any CCSD21 family that needs transportation support getting to and from their appointment.

While we recommend a parent or guardian accompany their child to the vaccine appointment, they are not required to be present. All individuals receiving a vaccine will need to provide a consent form at the time of the vaccine; patients that are 12-17 years old will need their parent or legal guardian to complete the form.

In addition to the links above, please find more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and its availability below:

As always, if you have questions about the vaccine or your child’s medical history or specific health concerns, please contact your healthcare provider.

We appreciate your continued support as we work to provide opportunities to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community, and to take another step to getting back to a more normal school experience.
