On May 20, Community Consolidated School District 21 will celebrate the first anniversary of the District 21 Health Center! Over the past year, the center has become an essential part of our school community, providing high-quality medical, mental health, and preventative care services right where our students need them most. Thanks to the dedication of our incredible staff and the support of our partners, we have made healthcare more accessible to hundreds of students, helping them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
The impact of the health center has been profound. Students have missed fewer school days due to illness, received timely mental health support, and gained valuable health education resources. Families have expressed their gratitude for having a trusted place where their children can receive care without the barriers of transportation, cost, or scheduling challenges. In just one year, we have seen firsthand how a healthier student body leads to a stronger, more vibrant learning environment.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen how access to healthcare right here at school can truly change lives. Students are healthier, more confident, and better able to focus on learning. It’s an honor to be part of a team that’s making such a meaningful difference every single day,” said Dr. Erica Slack, nurse practitioner.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are also looking ahead. We want every family, staff member, and community supporter to know about the resources available through our school-based health center. Whether it’s routine check-ups, vaccinations, counseling services, or health education workshops, we are here to serve. Please help us spread the word—share this news with your networks, encourage students to take advantage of these services, and continue championing the health and well-being of our community.
Together, we have built something truly special, and with your continued support, we know the best is yet to come!
