Cooking Class

In the Cooking Units for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, the students learn and practice skills such as how to read and comprehend recipes, apply basic cooking techniques, use math skills to measure and calculate ingredient amounts, how to follow standard sanitation practices in order to prevent foodborne illness, and learn the importance of good nutrition and how to apply it to the food they prepare. These skills are expounded upon each year.

We will follow the guidelines of The Matrix, however, here are some guidelines to follow in class in order to help you follow The Matrix.

Getting to work!

Every day you should arrive to class on time and sit in your seat immediately. If there are directions on the board, you should read them and begin working on the assignment. If not, take out your pen or pencil, and Cooking Booklet, and sit quietly and wait for Mrs. Salter to begin the lesson for the day.

Being prepared for class!

EVERY DAY you should come prepared to class with a pen or pencil, Cooking Booklet, and Chromebook. Doing your homework/classwork! All assignments will be written on the board each week. Most assignments will be started and completed in class, but if it is not completed in class, may become homework. Classwork and homework count towards your content grade, and may count towards your LQ grade as well. It is your responsibility to type your assignment into Google Keep in order to complete it on time. When we watch videos in class, I expect you to watch the video and fill out the worksheet while you are watching the video. Getting the answers from your friends afterward does not count.

Classwork, homework, video worksheets, and projects are all done in order to get ready for Cooking Labs. Failure to complete these may cause you to not be able to participate in Cooking Labs and/or you will receive a misstep.

Signing out!

If you need to leave class for any reason (locker, bathroom, drink), you must sign out completely on the clipboard (first name, last name, destination, timeout). Make sure to sign back in! Failure to do this may cost you the privilege of being able to leave class.

Tardies!

Get to class on time! You need to plan ahead (for example: you are NOT supposed to go to your locker between Explo classes. Make sure you have everything you need for all three of your Explo classes before your first Explo class). You will receive a misstep if you are tardy.
