Drama Curriculum

The  6th grade curriculum is designed for the student to meet the following goals: Students will

  • Be able to EXPLAIN the importance of the Actor’s Tools (mind, body and voice) to  the art form.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the Actor’s Tools to communicate ideas and feelings to the audience.
  • Be able to IDENTIFY exposition, conflict and resolution in a story to dramatize.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the elements of story making
  • Be able to DESCRIBE the Acting Process (plan, practice and perform) with a focus on planning.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the planning process

6th Grade Units

  • Welcome to Drama!
  • Actor’s Tools (mind, body voice)
  • Once Upon a Time (story elements)
  • Fairy Tales go to Court (plan, practice, perform)
  • It’s all Greek to Me (introduction to Greek theatre)

The  7th-grade curriculum is designed for the student to meet the following goals: Students will

  • Be able to DESCRIBE how actors use their Mind, Body and Voice to create a character.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the Actor’s Tools (mind, body and voice) to  communicate ideas and feelings to the audience.
  • Be able to ANALYZE the sequence of events in a story using Literary Terms.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the sequence of events in a story using Literary term.
  • Be able to EXPLAIN the process of planning and practicing (the acting process).
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the process of planning and practicing (the acting process)

7th Grade Units

  • Mum’s the Word! (pantomime)
  • Testing, Testing 1,2,3…(voice)
  • Only the Shadow Knows! (shadow puppets/theatre history/voice)
  • All the World’s a Stage (intro to the stage)
  • The Play’s the Thing (one act play)

The  8th-grade curriculum is designed for the student to meet the following goals: Students will:

  • Be able to COMPARE the use of the Actor’s Tools (Mind, Body and Voice) in a drama to real life.
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the Actor’s Tools: Mind , Body and Voice
  • Be able to ANALYZE the sequence of events in a story using Literary Terms to a drama.
  • Be able to ANALYZE the sequence of events using Dramatic Terms to a drama.
  • Be able to EXPLAIN the process of planning, practicing and performing (The Acting Process).
  • Be able to DEMONSTRATE the process of planning, practicing and performing (The Acting Process.

8th Grade Units

  • Review of the Actor’s Tools
  • Whose Line is it Anyways? Improvisation (exercising the actors tools: mind, body and voice)
  • Scene Study (characterization, scene performance, using theatre to solve real world problems- Authentic Learning Unit)
  • Brush up Your Shakespeare (theatre history, story elements)
