London Leaders

After nominations from London Staff,  a completed application, and going through a final selection process, 8th-grade students are selected to represent London Middle School as a London Leader.  Great care is taken to choose the best candidates for this program.  Teachers and staff members recommend students because he/she is well-respected, responsible and a trusted member of our student body.

The goals of this leadership program are as follows:

  • To practice and foster leadership skills
  • To develop a sense of confidence to help others
  • To improve listening and other communication skills
  • To develop an acceptance and appreciation of differences among people
  • To understand the importance of community service
  • To contribute to a safe learning environment at London

Some of the tasks that the London Leaders will take part in are:

  • Help new students adjust to our school with tours and other guidance
  • Represent our school/students at various building and district functions
  • Help orient 6th graders about to enter middle school
  • Develop and participate in fundraisers for various projects
  • Various activities at Field Elementary School
  • Red Ribbon Week/Snowflake
  • Pennies for Patients-The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
  • Teacher appreciation week
  • End of the year assembly skit
  • Provide leadership for London Middle School in a variety of ways

London Leaders meet throughout the school year.  Meetings are most often held during school hours during lunch on a specific letter day of the week.  We meet approximately once a week and sometimes more often depending on the project or task that needs to be completed.  A schedule will be given to the leaders in the next few weeks.  Attendance at meetings is expected, but knowing that many of our leaders are involved in many other activities, communication about an absence is appreciated, as we can be flexible with after school groups.
